Sydney is a Brooklyn based artist working in both painting and ceramics. While painting has been her practice for many years, her work in ceramics is a more recent exploration — one that has quickly become central to her creative life. She’s drawn to the tactility of clay and the meditative rhythm of hand throwing and hand building, finding grounding and focus in the process.

Her style is painterly and expressive, with an emphasis on irregular, imperfect forms that reflect the unpredictability and beauty of life. She approaches glazing as a painter does a canvas, layering color and texture to create one of a kind pieces that are functional, yet deeply artful. Her extensive background in fashion and visual arts informs her aesthetic sensibility, particularly in color and surface. In addition to ceramics, she continues to explore abstract and figurative painting, letting color, form and texture guide her work across mediums.
